Lost Year?

Spend Easter with my family,

Thanksgiving with my friends,

Girls trip or solo vacation,

Before the world ends,

Knock some things off the bucket list,

Get a new tattoo,

Explore the city and surrounding,

Go on a date or two,

Send my kids to summer camp,

Or at least send them to school,

Visit Grandma and the aunties,

Spend time at the beach or the pool,

Sip coffee with my colleagues,

Give friends a hug or high-five,

But thanks to the dreaded Corona,

All I managed to do was survive.

So maybe that's not entirely true....

The past year may not have gone

The way that I had planned.

There may have been no roadtrips

Or a summer in the sand.

But what I gained was time

To be introspective, to be free,

To take some important steps

In rediscovering me.

Before the virus, life moved too fast.

I didn't have time to notice

That inside of me lived an artist.

There was a writer, a poetess.

So thank you, 2020

And, yes, Covid 19.

You made the whole world stand still

But you helped me discover my dream.
